Volunteer Opportunities
As a Castle Medical Center volunteer, you can choose from a variety
of assignments, whether you prefer to work directly with patients or
behind the scenes.
While some volunteers join us to learn new skills, others come for the
sole purpose of helping others. Whatever the reason, there are many
areas available in which you can serve:
- Escort Services:
- For volunteers ages 16 and older.
- Duties may include running errands of all kinds; delivering equipment, paperwork, X-ray films, and
lab specimen between various departments; and transporting patients via wheelchairs or gurneys
within the hospital building.
- Gift Gallery:
- For volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Duties may include assisting customers, cashiering, and stocking shelves.
- Emergency Department (ED):
- For volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Duties may include cleaning and making beds; delivering and picking up various items for the ED;
transporting patients within the hospital building via wheelchairs or gurneys; attending to the
needs of family members who are waiting for patients being treated in the ED.
- Information Desk:
- For volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Duties may include directing visitors and patients to their destinations within the hospital;
answering and forwarding telephone calls; and dispatching Escort volunteers to assigned areas
when appropriate.
- Wellness Center:
- For non-smoking, healthy volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Duties may include helping with class registrations; greeting event attendees; setting up and
taking down equipment for special events; providing information about the Wellness Center;
and performing clerical tasks.
- Ambulatory Surgery:
- For volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Weekdays 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Duties may include greeting patients and making them comfortable; providing basic instructions;
assisting staff with chart packs; and answering phones if nurses are busy with patient care.
- Mail Delivery:
- For volunteers ages 18 and older.
- Weekdays only, flexible hours.
- Duties are delivering and picking up mail to and from all units of the hospital.
Most volunteer shifts are from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and from 4 p.m.
to 8 p.m.

provide to our patients. It will also offer you an opportunity for

others. The services provided by our volunteers are invaluable, and
