Advanced Cardiac Life Support—Recertification

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support course is an Emergency Cardiovascular Care program of the American Heart Association. The course and the text provide physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals with education on various aspects of advanced life support for adults. The course includes lectures, skills station, and interactive sessions. This is a recertification course only.

Prerequisites: knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias, the ability to recognize arrthythmias, and a current Healthcare Provider CPR certification.

There is no actual charge for the class to any Castle employee whose director has approved of the hospital’s paying his or her class fee. As a rule, however, Castle will not pay the class fee for a per diem employee.

It is recommended that, before taking the class, all attendees read through either the ACLS Provider Manual or the Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care, both published by the American Heart Association. These books may be purchased at the University of Hawai‘i School of Medicine Bookstore at 651 Ilalo Street in Kaka‘ako, or on-line from WorldPoint ECC, Inc., Channing Bete Company, or Laerdal Medical Corporation. Alternatively, Castle employees may borrow one of these books from the library at the Education and Training office on the lower level of Castle Medical Center.
